FOOD, DIET, NUTRITION LIFESTYLE and how they’re all the SAME….
Paleo, Keto, Vego, Vegan, Plant Based, Whole Foods, High Carb, Low Carb, Sugar’s Bad, Sugar’s good, Fat is bad, Fat is good, this study said this and this study said that… 🤓
WTF do I eat?!?! 🤔
The “diet” and food community can be a very tough landscape to navigate when trying to make some changes in habits around food choices. All the experts are right…. JUST ASK THEM!!!
But if the experts have it all figured out, then why are we seeing increased rates in:
- Adult and Childhood Diabetes
- Adult and Childhood Obesity
- Food allergies and sensitivities in children
- Heart Disease and stroke
- The list goes on…
As a society we are actually living longer, but with more CHRONIC DIS-EASE than ever before.
So with awareness comes choice:
You can choose to live a lifestyle that will lead to reliance on a bunch of pills and drugs to mask the symptoms of chronic disease
You can choose to take your health and wellbeing back into your own hands and empower yourself with the tools to live a balanced holistic lifestyle.
I remember back to when I was an elite athlete in my late teens, having access to the “best” nutritionists and sports scientists. Knowing now what I know, I think how crazy some of the advice was that I received.
I was always an active kid, playing heaps of sport and always out in nature. Growing up in the country, our diet was relatively simple and clean for dinner each night (Meat and 3 veg) – thanks Mum 🙂
But my health was never perfect…
As far back as I can remember, I would always have nasty coughs and chest infections most winters. The usual trip to the doctor to get my antibiotics, a bit of rest and loving family care would see it pass each year.
But this continued in to my mid 20’s, until one year, as a seemingly fit, active young man, it got so bad that I ended up in hospital for 7 nights with severe pneumonia…
The doctors said had I not gone in that night there was a chance I may not have woken up the next morning…
One would think I’d learnt my lesson by that stage? Nope, I had another battle versus pneumonia the following year…
Now the interesting thing was, each year I would place my trust in the doctors hands to do what was best for me. I just went along with their diagnoses, recommendations and of course prescriptions usually to some form of pharmaceutical drug… they know what they’re doing right?
I must have just been “unlucky” to get this every year!…
In hindsight, NOT ONCE out of numerous visits to many different GP’s did I ever get asked things like:
- What does your diet look like?
- What’s your environment like at home?
- Have you looked into restoring your gut flora after all the antibiotics you’ve had?
About 4 years ago, there were many changes happening in my life and I went to a seminar that opened my awareness to some ways I might be able to take things into my own hands.
Well that triggered a huge shift for me, I spent hours researching and learning from some of the best health experts in the world. The time I spent learning in this space was more than I ever spent on getting my own university degree.
There’s so much information, dis-information, good studies, fabricated studies, authentic and ethical producers and profit driven corporates playing in this space.
Amongst the sea of information, the only way to get clarity, was to become my own guinea pig and measure the results that showed up in my OWN life.
So little of the “mainstream” information allows for bio-individuality and neglects to treat the person as a whole – ie, there are so many other contributing factors aside from food to attaining good health.
So I made some gradual changes, committed to the J.E.R.F principle – Just Eat Real Food. I added more of what was good for me and eliminated things like dairy, gluten, processed foods, refined sugars, preservatives etc. I paid particular attention to healing my gut flora and boosting my immune system.
And guess what happened?!!
I’ve regained my health SOVEREIGNTY, I haven’t been sick in that 4 year period, the only time I’ve been to a medical institution was at the birth of my beautiful, healthy baby girl (which was in a natural birthing center).
Going on a “diet” isn’t sustainable, it’s not a long term strategy. Purification on all levels of your being is what starts to lead you back to what is called your natural state. Your natural state is where your health sovereignty is.
Many people think that they can’t do it, they don’t want to give up attachments to certain foods, they don’t believe it’s possible. There are deeper contributing factors why people run these beliefs, however IT IS possible for ANYONE to turn things around and enjoy natural health, wellness and vitality.
It starts with 1 simple choice to make a change. That change could be swapping something out in your daily rituals:
- Such as your morning coffee for a green juice or smoothie.
- It might be adding in more nutrient dense vegetable servings and eating less processed/packaged foods.
- It could be as simple as dedication to drinking more water each day.
Little by little the changes snowball and you start to make impactful, transformative changes step by step that serve you.
I also often hear the excuse that it takes too much time to prepare healthy options or I don’t know how to make different foods… You can choose it to be as complex or simple as you make it to be, not every meal needs to make it to your instagram page!
If you choose to prioritise your time in other areas, there are a plethora of meal creations you can make big batches of to have multiple meals on hand ready in reserve.
If you don’t have intuitive inspiration in the kitchen, make youtube and google your friend for a while. There are thousands of amazing people posting free amazing recipes, tips and tricks when it comes to food in the digital space.
The way in which we partake and create rituals around food is equally as important as the food itself. Eating high vibration food, in high vibration company, blessing your food and giving thanks to all that has transpired for it to make its way to your plate is beautiful practice to develop.
Food has brought people together for centuries. Think of some of the happiest times you’ve had while communing with family, friends and loved ones. Chances are that many of those occasions were celebrated over food.
For me, I love the alchemy of creating new high vibration foods combinations, full of synergy and love, and sharing it with loved ones. I will admit, it does come easy for me, I do tap into an intuitive space that does things like tell my hand to stop when adding a spice, or knowing the dish needs a little more of “this or that” to make it balanced.
But I get it, not everyone is like that…
- So is food just another chore for you?
